The fort was built in the 13th century during the rule of the Kakatiya dynasty, who made Warangal their capital. It is famous for its impressive architecture, massive stone gateways, and historical significance.The construction of the fort began during the reign of Ganapati Deva and was later completed by his daughter Rani Rudrama Devi. The fort served as a powerful administrative and military center of the Kakatiya rulers. In the 14th century, the fort was attacked and partially destroyed during invasions by the Delhi Sultanate.The fort is known for its unique structure that includes three concentric defensive walls, a moat, and four magnificent stone gateways called Kakatiya Kala Thoranam. These grand arches have become a cultural symbol of Telangana and are even included in the state emblem.
